The harvest and vintage 2008
| News - News |
As far as the harvest of the red grapes is concerned, the vine-growers waited until the end of the month to start the harvest, leaving the vine enough time to concentrate all the aromas, sugar and a good dark colour red in the grapes. The grapes were gathered in a very healthy condition, soft and well coloured with naturally elevated degrees.
Despite all this the 2008 vintage will be weak in quantity for several reasons: a frost killed the majority of the buds on the 7th April last year, numerous lots were damaged by hailstones and then the spring weather provoked a phenomena of falling blossoms and seed breaking.
It remains to be seen if the vines this year will live up to our hopes. From the beginning of the month of September the wide discrepancy between the day and night temperatures favoured the creation of the precursors of aromas in the white wines which will be rich and fruity with the freshness of citrus fruits and have the subtlety of boxwood. These temperature differences equally allowed the skins of the red grapes to colour intensely and to accumulate molecules known as ‘anthocyanes'. These molecules are naturally liberated in the wine in the process of vinification and give a beautiful ruby colour.
Aromatic complexity and gentle freshness for the white wines and a ruby robe and fullness for the reds; though it is too early to draw conclusions about the 2008 wines, from now, already, they augur a very good prospect.
