Castle-fort of the 13th and 14th centuries with work continuing until the 18th century, has a beautiful panoramic view of the Garonne. Today the château is a place of cultural activities (small museum and medieval happenings).

This castle of the Dukes of Epernon is an example of French architecture of the very beginning of the 17th century. Monumental fireplaces in carved stone or marble, painted ceilings and tapestries are witnesses of the ostentation of this residence.

Abbey of Sauve Majeure in La Sauve

Founded in 1079 the abbey was the centre of the clearing of land for cultivation in part of Entre-Deux-Mers. There are magnificent roman capitals (of columns). The abbey is classified as ‘Patrimoine Mondial de l'Humanité'. (World Heritage of Humanity) in the titles of the routes of St James of Compostela. The former abbey barn now houses the ‘house of wines' (Maison des Vins) of Entre-Deux-Mers.

Classified historical monument, this ancient Benedictine abbey church was built in the 7th century. Remarkable sculptured doorway.
St. Ferme Abbey.

This dignified Benedictine abbey was founded in the 11th century : figures carved on the roman column capitals. This is a halting-place on the road to St James of Compostela (Vézelay way). Also worth visiting are the churches of Castelviel, Lignan-de-Bordeaux and St- Martin-de-Sescas as well as the mills of Bagas and Loubens.

Verdelais
Since the 11th century Verdelais has been the centre of a famous pilgrimage to Notre Dame (Our Lady). Surprising basilica church, monumental way of the cross with chapels, the tomb of Toulouse Lautrec, museum of religious art (votive offerings, goldsmith work and liturgical habits) and a vast panorama over the Garonne.

The smallest commune of France : 3,5 hectares. Fortified village on a spur of rock: ancient washing place, amazing walls and hanging balconies, a potter has his atelier and boutique in the village.

Medieval city on a terrace overlooking the Garonne river, majestic building of the former abbey (cloister, remarkable church, wrought iron grill, monumental staircase) fortified château ‘Quat'Sos', 12th century town hall - the oldest in France.
The bastides - fortified towns.
‘New towns' of the Middle Ages, built in the second half of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century with the objective of bringing political stability and economic development to the region. They all adopt a geometrical design with straight streets crossing one another at a right angle, a central square with arcades and a church slightly off the square in one of the angles.
Créon

This bastide (fortified town) bears the name of its founder Amaury lll de Craon, seneschal to the king of England in 1342. Créon was the seat of the royal provost-marshal of Entre-Deux-Mers until the revolution.
Cadillac

This ancient bastide, founded in 1280, manifests numerous illustrations of the typical bastide of which the imposing ramparts and fortified town gates are examples.
Blasimon

Founded in 1273 on the ‘castrum' of Blavini Mons it became a bastide in 1322.
Sauveterre de Guyenne

Founded in 1281 the town still has all the four city gates intact and from one of them, Saubote, one overlooks the vineyards of Entre-Deux -Mers.
Monségur

This bastide was erected on a rise in 1265 and has maintained the plot of the original plan. In the centre of the arcaded square there is a beautiful glass and wrought iron hall. A typical bastide church can be found here.
Pellegrue

Planted on rocky spur: market hall of the 19th century, a church with a roman doorway and curious belfry also a renovated washing-place.
