Since the 1960s the wine cooperative of Sauveterre de Guyenne has been equipped with modern equipment in particular for the reception of the grapes with the purchase of an automatic refractometre (to measure the sugar content of the grapes) and modern equipment for the pressing of the grapes. From 1970 the wine cooperative, which had, hitherto, only produced white wines, moved towards the production of rosé and then red wines and in so doing was involved in a spectacular process of increase in its potential of production, moving from 640 hectares of vineyards in 1972 to the present approximately 2000 hectares. This important development is linked to several concomitant factors, particularly technological inducements, notoriety of the wine cooperative in this geographical region and to new plantations of vines.
Nowadays, endowed with a rich history which has seen the region of Bordeaux be transformed thanks to the wine properties, the vine growers of Sauveterre de Guyenne use modern techniques to serve their know-how, and to improve the quality of their wines.
They have also become conscious of the major issue of the present and coming centuries: the protection of the environment and of their soil. Their engagement in the process of agri-confidence and equally the certification ISO 9001 and 14001 (environmental norms) is proof, if such is needed, of their will to be involved in a durable viticulture. Each era presents certain challenges. That of the 21st century is sizeable but they have sized up the challenge and will put everything into effect to deal with it and take a new turning in their business.
